Kutumb Katha — Student Internship Programme

What the internship is

Kutumb Katha ("the story of the family") is ground-level cultural research: each intern sits with two generations of the same world — one elder, one younger respondent — across five domains of family life, one domain each day. Ten structured interviews in all, with an observation report, audio, photograph, and geolocation after every visit. The previous batch fielded 90 interns.

The five domains

Day 1: Family Relationships and Everyday Life · Day 2–5: one domain per day across the five-domain framework covering how Indian families live, decide, celebrate, and hold together. Structured checkbox questionnaires (Google Forms) keep every interview comparable; your training covers the workflow, field etiquette, and respondent care.

What interns receive

Complete onboarding documentation (welcome handbook, operational manual, quick-reference field guide, FAQ, etiquette guide), supervisor support throughout, and a certificate on completion. You leave having done real fieldwork: listening carefully, recording faithfully, and contributing to a genuine archive of Indian family life.

Who should apply

Students and young researchers who can commit to the five field days and the training that precedes them. The internship is free; sincerity is the fee.
