Part of the Dayanand Anglo-Vedic educational movement inspired by Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati, the college has served central Varanasi since 1939. Its association with BHU places its students within the university's degree framework, while the college maintains its own campus, journals (Prabha, Stree Vimarsh), the Late P. N. Singh Memorial Auditorium, an indoor stadium, media centre and health centre.
