Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vijnan (SVDV) is BHU's unique faculty devoted wholly to the traditional Vedic knowledge system — Veda, Vyakarana, Jyotisha, Dharmashastra, Mimamsa, Vedanta, Purana-Itihasa — taught in the classical mode inside a modern central university. Degrees run from Shastri (UG) and Acharya (PG) to Vidyavaridhi (doctoral), making it one of the few university faculties anywhere dedicated end-to-end to shastra.

Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya conceived BHU to unite ancient Indian knowledge with modern science; SVDV is where that founding purpose lives in its original form. The faculty preserves the rigour of guru-shishya shastric study — recitation, grammar, hermeneutics — while granting university degrees, and its departments anchor Varanasi's standing as the world capital of Sanskrit learning alongside Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya.
