Running since the university's opening in 1916, the faculty's chairs in Sanskrit, AIHC & Archaeology, and Philosophy shaped how ancient India is studied academically; generations of Indologists trained or taught here, and its departmental libraries and museum collections are reference points for the field. For students of the Indic knowledge systems, this faculty is the modern-university counterpart to BHU's traditional SVDV faculty.
